Family Pride
6. May 2018I11:00 - 15:00 AEST
Rainbow Families is thrilled to join partners across the globe in celebration of the seventh annual International Family Equality Day (IFED) – a world-wide celebration of the LGBTQ parenting and family community.
Rainbow families, friends and allies in Sydney will be celebrating on May 6th from 11am in Sydney Park.
Supported by the Commonwealth Bank, the event will be bigger and better than ever, with live entertainment, three jumping castles, face-painters, a free BBQ and arts and crafts.
There will be a bake sale and LGBITQ kids book swap to help raise money for upcoming events. If you are interested in contributing, bring along a plate of baked goods or a kids book your family has outgrown to add to the table. We also encourage you to bring a picnic rug and settle in for a family friendly afternoon.
Our friends at ACON, Dowson and Turco, PRIDE in sport, NSW Police, Gleebooks, Reverse Garbage and the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby, will be joining us with some special activities for the kids.
Rainbow Families will be joining groups around the globe in celebrating the unique contribution made by diverse families including LGBTIQ-parented families, single parent families, foster families and grandparent-carer families.
#IFED2018 aims to highlight the diversity of family structures and to strengthen solidarity among families, helping to raise awareness among politicians and the general public about the need for equal treatment and recognition for all families, regardless of the sexual orientation or gender identity of their family’s members.
The day comes with an important message – Children’s Rights Matter – and local politicians will be on hand to support the message and celebrate with our families.
