Amanda Hopping-Winn joined Family Equality Council in December 2017 as Chief Program Officer, leading the Program Team in providing supports and resources for those building LGBTQ families, coordinating Family Week, providing resources to community-based LGBTQ family networks across the country, and building LGBTQ competency training resources for agencies providing family formation services to the LGBTQ community. A South Jersey native, Amanda Hopping-Winn received her B.S. in Behavior and Addictions Counseling from Drexel University. She worked in an outpatient substance use treatment facility with adolescents and on a family preservation unit with Philadelphia’s Child Welfare Department before moving to the Bay Area to obtain her Master of Social Welfare degree from UC Berkeley. Upon completion of her degree in 2009, Amanda joined the Children’s Network of Solano County as their Community Organization Analyst. There, she worked closely with the County Board of Supervisors and Child Welfare Department to evaluate and strengthen the County’s programming for children and families.
In 2011, Amanda transitioned to a larger-scale organization, the UC Berkeley-based National Abandoned Infants Assistance Resource Center, where she served as Policy Analyst before becoming the center’s Executive Director. In this capacity, Amanda rebranded the Resource Center, and the 20 grantees it served across the country, as a prevention program serving pregnant and postpartum families affected by substance use and/or HIV. Amanda has always been passionate about serving marginalized families and brings with her over 10 years of expertise in program development and evaluation.
Amanda and her partner, Jen, met in graduate school and were married (the first time) in NJ in 2010. When Prop 8 was overturned in California in 2013, they were married legally in their home state. They now have two young children and live in Portland, Oregon. Amanda enjoys hiking, swimming, cuddling with her dog, and musical theater, especially when she can convince her kids and partner to join her!
